From Damp Qualifying to a Drag Race Finish: GTi Challenge round 4, delivers at Killarney

Round 4 of the GTi Challenge delivered everything motorsport fans could ask for: changing track conditions, dramatic race restarts, fearless overtaking, breakthrough performances, and a race-winning move that wasn't settled until the final sprint to the chequered flag.

Held at Killarney International Raceway on 30 May as part of the Western Province Motor Club Power Series, the event showcased exactly why the GTi Challenge remains one of the most exciting categories on the local motorsport calendar.

A Challenging Start to the Day

The day began with drivers facing a very different challenge before the racing had even started.

A cold Cape Town morning and damp track conditions made qualifying a delicate balancing act, with competitors forced to carefully manage grip while searching for speed. Several drivers reported slippery conditions during the opening laps, with some running wide as they explored the limits of the circuit while waiting for the racing line to dry.

As the session progressed, conditions improved significantly. The sun emerged, the racing line began to appear, and lap times started to tumble as confidence grew across the field.
